1 - Reduce its plastic consumption

The death of more than 50% of sea turtles is today due to an ingestion of plastic waste, according to marine biologists ... and It is necessary at least 450 years for a single bottle of water to degrade naturally.

In order to reduce her own plastic consumption, we can Avoid buying bottled water (to trade against a gourd), but also Avoid all plastic objects for unique uses : plastic bags or disposable dishes!

2 - Always throw but butts in the trash

The Mégot is waste number 1: Each year 4.5 billion butts are thrown around the world. Except 1 megot pollutes up to 500 l of water Because of its toxic compounds! As our partner would say Surfrider Foundation Europe: "Throwing it is to throw at sea", so if you are smokers, turn off your butts and Always throw them in the trash or ideally in Specialized collectors !

3 - Find out about the composition of your clothes

At Balzac Paris, this is a commitment that is fully part of our T.P.R approach (always more responsible): choose Materials that have a low impact on the oceans. For example, we turn to the organic cotton, without polluting pesticides, or the Seaqual, a material produced from plastic waste harvested in the oceans. Some labels, like Gots (Global organic textile sandard) or OEKO-TEX®make sure to preserve the quality of the water (and therefore of the oceans) by stopping the harmful substances for aquatic ecosystems.

4 - Use a guppyfriend bag

Wash synthetic fiber clothes releases microplastics in the water that pollute the rivers and the oceans. By retaining 86% of these microplastics during their passing in washing machine, This large washing bag allows to avoid 35% of microplastics found in the ocean ! He also protects your clothes and thus extends their lifespan.

Il is available on our eshop ! Adopt it this way :

5 - Limit your carbon footprint

The oceans absorb around 30% of CO2 emissions that we produce. This is not without consequences: According to Ocean Open, current ocean acidity levels have increased by 26% since the start of the industrial revolution. It has irreversible repercussions on marine flora and fauna !

To reduce your CO2 emissions, a few daily gestures can make the difference: prefer travel or train trips to those by car, Limit its meat consumption, Buy LED bulbs or choose the “eco” programs of his household appliances.

6 - Organize or participate in a waste collection

You have certainly already passed at the edge of a river or along a piece of beach invaded by waste. Our partner Surfrider Foundation Europe set up the Ocean initiatives which organize major waste collections everywhere in France and Europe! They are organized in order to Awareness of participants, but also in order to resort to participatory science to produce data on the phenomenon of marine pollution and in particular that of plastic pollution. Do not hesitate to get closer to the antennas Surfrider Foundation Europe The closest to you to participate or organize your collection!

PS: you remember our ocean sweatshirt ? At each sweatshirt purchased, € 30 is donated to our partner Surfrider Foundation Europe in order to support Ocean initiatives ! He's coming back soon, Register for the online alert so as not to miss it.

7 - Adopt an RRRR philosophy!

RRRR? Reduce, repair, reuse, recycle. An acronym cousin of our famous T.P.R (always more responsible) Who encourages to reduce its overall consumption (“Do I really need it?), To repair or reuse as much as we have (“ Do I really have to throw it away ... or is it That I can resell it on the second -hand Balzac Paris platform? ”) And to correctly recycle what should be thrown away (“ How to facilitate the second life of my waste? ”).Because the waste that pollutes the least oceans the least, is the one we do not create!
